How Does Magnetic Speed Sensor SMCB-01-16 Measure Turbine Speed?

In rotating machinery such as steam turbine, accurate measurement of rotating speed is very important because it is directly related to safe operation and performance optimization of equipment. The SMCB-01-16 magnetic speed sensor converts the rotating speed of the rotor into an electrical signal by detecting the magnetic mark on the turbine rotor or the movement of the magnetizer, so as to realize the real-time monitoring of the rotating speed.

Magnetic Speed Sensor SMCB-01-16

In the rotating speed measuring device of the steam turbine, a fluted disc with magnetic mark will be installed. When the rotor rotates, the fluted disc will move relative to the sensor and generate the changed magnetic field. The SMR element in the SMCB-01-16 sensor detects this change in the magnetic field and converts it into a change in the resistance to produce a stable square wave signal via an internal amplification shaping circuit. This signal can be transmitted to the monitoring system, and the rotor speed can be obtained by calculating the number and time interval of pulses.

The installation specification of SMCB-01-16 sensor is M16 × 1mm. During installation, a 0.5mm-1.0mm clearance shall be left between the sensor and the gear disc to ensure enough space for the sensor to accurately detect the small change of the magnetic field. Too small clearance may cause the sensor to contact the rotor and damage the sensor or rotor; Too large may affect the accuracy of the measurement.

If there is a conflict between clearance and orientation during installation, it is usually advisable to first ensure that the sensor is oriented correctly. Directivity is a key factor to ensure proper operation of the sensor because accurate measurement of rotational speed is only possible if the sensitive direction of the sensor matches the direction of motion of the rotor. If the direction is wrong, even if the clearance is adjusted well, the accurate speed reading cannot be obtained.

The high integration of SMCB-01-16 magnetic speed sensor means that they are internally integrated with amplification and reshaping circuits, and can directly output stable square wave signals without external proximitor. This design simplifies the installation and maintenance of the system and improves the overall reliability. High reliability is the key factor to ensure long-term stable operation of steam turbine, because any failure may lead to equipment shutdown, economic loss and production interruption.

Magnetic Speed Sensor SMCB-01-16

With wide frequency response, good stability and strong anti-interference, SMCB-01-16 magnetic speed sensor is very suitable for steam turbine environment with extremely high requirements on measurement accuracy and reliability. By monitoring the rotating speed of the steam turbine in real time, the safe operation of the equipment at rated speed can be ensured, and the equipment can also be used for accurate control during startup, shutdown and load regulation.
